We've been pretty busy these past few weeks, although nothing is really new. Ollie is continuing to do well. He is still stuffy and has a cough, but hasn't been sick again (yet!). I weighed him on the scale the other day (holding him then subtracting my weight) and he's about 16 lbs. We'll be having to upgrade our car seat and stroller pretty soon!
Ollie is still eating his solids really well, and we've introduced bananas, acorn squash, pears, white sweet potatoes, and peaches. I usually mix the fruit in some cereal (we've moved on from rice to oatmeal now for the extra fiber) with a little breast milk, and he gets these meals for breakfast and dinner. Ollie's favorite so far is definitely bananas! For the most part, we've been feeding him food we make ourselves by pureeing fresh fruits and veggies. We've been freezing stuff, which works out pretty well. But, last Saturday, I attempted to can a bunch of food using little Ball brand jars. I checked them out today, and it didn't work! The sweet potatoes and pears smelled like they were fermenting their way to making a delicious alcoholic beverage, but were no good as Ollie food! I'm still debating whether I should try again, or just go with freezing since that's been working out and still has a shelf life of about 2 months.
Last week, I stopped sending Ollie to Daycare with breastmilk, since he is eating a lot now, and I can't keep up with him anymore. We figure, since Daycare provides formula for free, if he's going to drink formula at all, it may as well be at Daycare so that he drinks the free breast milk at home! Last week he seemed fine with this, but this week, they were having a hard time getting him to eat during the day. We know he doesn't like formula as much, and so maybe he's just refusing it because of that? He definitely eats like crazy when he gets home! He improved a little by the end of the week, so hopefully he'll do well again next week.
Last (Labor Day) weekend we went to Lancaster to visit Nanny and Gramma. On this trip we realized that Ollie is starting to definitely be aware when he's not home, and for the first time, he was acting scared when he first got to Nanny's house and when he woke up from his nap. He was totally fine with the people since he is familiar with everyone by now, but the strange PLACE seemed to freak him out at first. We also realized that we've been doing a pretty good job of keeping Ollie on a schedule, because when we were visiting Gramma on Sunday night, as soon as it got past his normal bed time at 7 pm, he got really cranky and mad, and it was pretty hard to get him to calm down once we got him back to Nanny's house, where we were spending the night!
Ollie has picked up a few new tricks/developments in the past two weeks. Ollie likes to try to feed himself when getting his solids by grabbing the spoon and pulling it into to his mouth. Ollie also seems to know to open his mouth when we say "open." He probably learned this because we've been telling him to "open" for his Zantac since he was about 2 months old...haha Gramma got Ollie to finally laugh last weekend, which was really cute! Since then, he's laughed for Daddy too. Ollie seems to be fascinated by words and letters, and likes to stare and touch things that have them, especially T-shirts. Ollie started making the "razzing" sounds today. He thinks it's hilarious, and was mimicking with Dad with razzing noises when Dad was making horsey sounds.
I've uploaded a few recent pictures. The first one was taken by his pictures at Daycare on one of their buggy rides outside. We think this picture is really funny because Ollie is passed out in his swaddler, and looks HUGE next to the kid next to him, who is twice his age! There are also pictures of Ollie playing in laundry, which Mark discovered he loves yesterday when he couldn't get Ollie to take a nap, and decided to let Ollie help him fold laundry instead.
Well, I guess that's it for now!
