Keep on keepin' on.

Ollie is over 6 1/2 months old now!  Last week, we went to his 6-month check-up.  Ollie is now 26" tall, and almost 17 lbs.  He is still hovering at about the 50% percentile for his height and weight.  I was worried after his 4-month check-up that the exponential growth that allowed Ollie to catch up after being born 5 weeks early would continue non-stop, but he seems to have leveled out now.  It's funny because when people ask us how old he is now, they are always shocked--everyone things he looks so big, when actually, he is slightly under the 50th percentile!  Mark and I think that it's because all of his hair makes him look older than he is.  Ollie also got a bunch of vaccinations at his check-up, including the flu shot.  His timing couldn't have been better since they started giving out the flu vaccines in October, right when he turned six months old, which is how old babies have to be to get the shot.

Other than Ollie's check-up, not too much else is new.  A few weekends ago, we went apple picking at a local orchard, which was pretty fun.  (I made Ollie some applesauce!)  The next day, we went to visit Great Grandmom and Grandpop, which was really nice.  As an added bonus, we also got to see Great Aunt Jen and cousins Aidan and Samantha.  Last weekend we went to an Oktoberfest party at a friends house, and Ollie got pretty scared when we first got there.  As usual, he seemed to be freaked out more by new indoor surroundings than by the people there.  As soon as we took him outside, he was fine!  After a while he got used to it, but we're also aware that he's getting to the age where he might start getting more freaked out about strange people and places.

This past week, Ollie was having some issues with diarrhea, and had his first diapers rash/irritation on his bum.  We felt really bad for him, because it seemed like it really hurt!!  But with some diaper rash cream, it cleared up in no time, and he's pretty much back to normal now.  His poopy issues may have come from the fact that we've pretty much taken Ollie off of his Zantac, as suggested by his doctor.  So far, he seems to be OK, but the sudden change may have messed up his tummy a little.  Ollie was also running a low-grade fever by this weekend, which seemed to have cleared up by yesterday.  We don't know if that was related to the poopy problems, or if maybe he is really teething now?

Ollie continues to babble to no end, but hasn't really said any words yet.  He is also getting really good at taking his bottle from you and putting it in his mouth.  Ollie still isn't sleeping through the night, but in general, he's getting much better at putting himself to sleep, which has made nights a little easier.

I guess that's it for now!
