Week 8 Update

I'm now about 8.5 weeks pregnant, and the baby is about the size of a large raspberry, on it's way to becoming the size of a medium green olive.  (Gotta love the produce analogies from "What to Expect!")  This week started off a little rocky for me--I felt pretty yucky on Sunday, and Monday I felt kind of dizzy all day and had a mild headache until I went to bed.  But, today I felt much better, so that's good!  The yuckiness seems to come in waves, good days and bad days.

I'm definitely feeling much more hungry, almost all the time.  I find myself snacking all day, but the stuff that used to hold me over before I was pregnant isn't quite cutting it these days.  So, I just make sure I have lots of snacks around at work.  There is also a food court, convenient store, and cafe in the student center right next door to where I work which is helpful for finding random things when I'm feeling yucky and only a few things sound appetizing.  I haven't really had any weird cravings yet, but I've developed strong aversions to coffee and, oddly, garlic.  (Mark made garlic bread with lasagna the other night and I thought I was gonna hurl...haha)

After our appointment with the OB last week, I was pretty overwhelmed with all of the other appointments I had to make (1st trimester screen, monthly check up, blood work, etc.), but I think I took care of everything.  It actually wasn't that bad, just a lot to take in along with the laundry list of dos and don'ts and worrying if everything was okay before I got the ultrasound.  It turns out that I can get any blood work I need done right at the student health center at Princeton, which is super convenient since the health center is only a few buildings away from where I work.  So I got the latest done this morning.  I guess I'll hear the results from the OB?  Not sure if that will be before the next monthly visit though.

The next major thing I have to deal with is telling my boss about the baby.  I'm pretty nervous about that since I'm anticipating that she's not going to take it so well.  I know she'll pretend she's cool with it, but I'm just hoping she won't change her tune later.  I'm planning to tell her in the next two weeks, and am just waiting for the right moment.  She's really hard to get a hold of these days though, so it will be hard to subtly corner in her office.  But, I made out a maternity time line (something in writing that we can agree on!) and hid it in my desk so I can grab it whenever the moment strikes.  I think I will probably just tell the lab shortly after I tell her.  But I know that she'll need to be the first to know.  (Have to let her think she's in control of something...haha)

Other than that, not much else to report.  I bought a bunch of maternity clothes from Old Navy a week or two ago, and got some major deals!  :)  They were having a sale on baby and maternity (40% off), plus I used a 20% off coupon, a $20 off $100 coupon, and a free shipping coupon.  So long story short, I got about $400 of clothes for $180.  I was super psyched...haha  I think that made my weekend!  I'm obviously not even close to having to wear the clothes yet, but I have been wearing the pants since they are really comfortable on those extra bloaty days.

Well, I guess that's all for now!

-Mandy :)
