We're almost at the end of 10 weeks. According to my trusty book, the baby is about 1.5 inches long now (for those of you following the produce section analogies, about the size of a prune). It is now actually starting to look like a little person with arms and legs, which are developing joints (apparently the elbows are already working!). Its tummy is producing its own digestive juices, and its waste system is up and running with functioning kidneys.
There aren't any new wacky symptoms to report this week, just more of the same. I haven't felt quite as hungry as I had in the past two weeks, but I think that's just because I'm getting used to having to nosh on something every couple of hours, so I keep myself from feeling starving. It still have a stuffy nose and the occasional cough, but fortunately, my cold seemed to become a lot less severe by the end of last week.
I ended up telling the people I work with about the baby today. To be safe, I should really probably have waited another week or two, but between upcoming appointments and parties (like Oktoberfest), etc., it is going to start getting really difficult to hide! So I figured I'd jump the gun before people get suspicions of their own...haha
Next week I have two appointments. On Wednesday I go to the Princeton hospital for a "first trimester screen." I'm guessing this will be another ultrasound, since this is supposed to be a test for signs of Downs Syndrome in which they can somehow look at a fold of skin on the baby's neck and figure this out. On Thursday, I go for a regular monthly checkup. Probably the following week I will be more open with the news and tell the rest of the world...
-Mandy :)
