Yesterday marked the end of week 22, and the baby is now around 8 inches long and weighs over a pound. Right now our little boy's skin is looking pretty saggy, and hangs from his body. This is because the skin grows faster than the fat develops, and there's not much fat to fill in the skin yet. But, starting around now, he will begin to pack on the pounds (hopefully he'll take some from me, because I don't want any more! haha). By the end of this month, the baby will double in weight! Once the fat deposits are made, he will look less transparent. (Right now the organs and bones can still be seen through the skin, which still has a red hue due to the developing veins and arteries just underneath.)
Today, Mark and I (and baby boy!) went to the 6 month check-up. Again we got the routine: weight (I'm starting to get really scared to step on that scale!), blood pressure, urine test (for sugar and protein), and a listen to the baby's heart beat. Everything is still good! The OB also noted that all of the testing so far has gone great, so that's certainly reassuring. When we listened to the heart beat today, the OB pointed out that it seemed like he had hiccups, which I definitely could hear once or twice. I read somewhere that this is because around now, the baby is starting to practice breathing (though I'm not sure how...haha), which can cause hiccups.
Other than the check-up, not a whole lot new is going on in the baby department. The baby's movements are starting to get stronger, and more frequent. Although, I'm not so sure they are more frequent... It's probably more likely that I'm just starting to be able to feel all of them. He was very active today with lots of movement in the morning, at lunch time, in the waiting room at the doctor's office, this evening at work, and I'm sure I'll feel more later tonight when I usually get a good show before going to bed!
Last weekend Mark and I signed up for Upromise which will help us start to save money for our son's college fund. Basically, you sign up your credit/debit cards with this program, and you can get all kinds of cash back (on groceries, gas, online shopping, etc.) which is put into the fund. If you get the Upromise credit card, you save even more. Friends and family can actually sign up too to help with the saving, and their cash back can be directed to same fund, allocated among more than one fund, etc. If you'd be interested in signing up for this (either with us or for your own purposes), you can check it out by going to www.upromise.com. If you'd like to sign up in conjunction with the fund for our son, let us know, and I can send you an e-mail invitation with the information you'll need that is specific to our account.
Guess that's all for now!
